Read the scan results
Tools found, the pages they’re on, where they come from and how they’re handled.
The Scanner tab lists what loads on your site. The scanner reads up to 10 of your own public pages once a day and when you click Scan now. If your site uses Google Tag Manager, it also reads the tags inside your container. It recognises 70+ services, including ad networks, session recorders and product analytics, and lists any other outside script it finds.

- Scan now checks your site again.
- The tool found, with the script or address that loads it.
- Handling: the category that decides when it may run. Change it any time.
- Where it comes from: the plugin, theme or snippet that adds it, or a note when it was added by hand.
The three columns
- Tool: the service, the code or address that gave it away, and where it comes from.
- Found on: up to five pages it appeared on, then a count of the rest.
- Handling: what GoConsent does with it.
Handling
Most tools get one of three categories. Changes save as soon as you pick one.
- Necessary: always runs. Keep this for things the site can’t work without, such as payments, spam protection or bookings.
- Analytics: held until consent.
- Marketing: held until consent, and off for visitors whose browser sends Global Privacy Control.
Some rows show a label instead: Click-to-load for YouTube, Vimeo and Google Maps embeds, Self-hosted for Google Fonts served from your site, Download failed for Google Fonts that still load from Google, and Loads on every visit for other embedded content, which the Overview flags.
Where it comes from
Under each tool, a note says what put it there, such as “Added by the … plugin”, a page where code was pasted (with an Edit page link), or your Google Tag Manager container. Tags inside Tag Manager are held until consent; to remove one, edit the container in Google Tag Manager. If the note says the source wasn’t identified, look at your theme code and any header or footer snippets.
Scripts that need review
A script GoConsent doesn’t know is sorted automatically and marked Needs review, and the Overview shows a critical item until you confirm it. Check the category, then click its approve button, such as Approve as Marketing. The row then shows who approved it and when, with Undo.
What to do with a result
- Check the category. Advertising and retargeting belong in Marketing; visit counting in Analytics.
- Don’t recognise it? The source tells you which plugin or theme to look at. Remove what you don’t use.
- After the scan finds something new, check your policies. The Overview flags wording your privacy policy is missing, and the Tools tab shows Update available on pages that are behind. See Keep policies up to date.
The scanner checks a sample of pages, so it can miss tools that load in unusual ways or send data from their own servers. With Pro, an evidence scan tests your banner from a clean browser.
