Look up proof of consent
Find every choice a visitor made from their Consent ID, and print a receipt.
Every time a visitor makes a choice, GoConsent saves a record on your own server: a random Consent ID, the time, what they allowed, whether their browser sent Global Privacy Control, the policy version and an anonymized IP. Records are kept 24 months. The free version lets you download them all as CSV; Pro lets you find one person’s records and print a receipt.
When you’d use it
- A visitor asks what they agreed to, or says they never agreed.
- A complaint or demand letter claims your site tracked someone without consent.
- Your lawyer asks for a record of one person’s choices.
Look up a Consent ID
Once a visitor has made a choice, Your Privacy Choices shows their Consent ID with a Copy ID button. Ask them to send it to you. The ID is the same each time they change their mind in that browser, so one lookup finds all their choices.

- Paste the visitor’s Consent ID. They can copy it from the receipt in Your Privacy Choices.
- Look up lists every choice saved for that ID.
- Print proof-of-consent receipt opens a page you can print or save as PDF.
You’ll find it on the Consent tab, in the Banner look card, under Consent records: Look up a Consent ID. Only administrators can use it.
- Each record shows the time, the choice (Accepted all, Rejected all or Chose some categories), the categories allowed, GPC if it was sent, and the policy version.
- A Consent ID has 36 characters. If GoConsent says it doesn’t look like one, check for missing characters.
- “No records for that Consent ID” can mean the choice is older than 24 months, or was made on a different site.
What the receipt shows
- Your site, the Consent ID and when the receipt was made.
- Each choice: time, what was allowed, Global Privacy Control, policy version, page and anonymized IP.
- A SHA-256 fingerprint, calculated from your site address, the Consent ID, the records exactly as stored and the time the receipt was made. Anyone with the same records can recalculate it, so you can show later that the receipt hasn’t been changed.
To save it as a PDF, use your browser’s Print and choose Save as PDF. Each receipt gets its own fingerprint because its time is different, so keep the PDF you send.
Privacy of the records
IP addresses are anonymized before they’re saved: the last part of an IPv4 address is set to 0, and IPv6 addresses are shortened. Records stay on your server and are deleted automatically after 24 months.
