Set up your business profile
Location, industry and customers decide which laws likely apply and what your policies say.
The Settings tab tells GoConsent about your business. It uses your answers to work out which privacy laws likely apply, to word your policy pages, and to sort the Overview into what is required and what is best practice. Visitor protection is the same everywhere.

- With Pro, one line shows your plan. Open Account goes to the Account tab. The free version doesn’t have this line.
- Business: your name, location, industry and contact details, used in your policies.
Business
- Business name, used in suggested wording.
- Location: your state, Canada, the EU/EEA, the UK or another country. Your home location’s laws are always included.
- Privacy contact email: where privacy requests go.
- Mailing address and Phone (optional): shown in the contact section of each policy page.
- Export and import settings (Pro): download this site’s settings and import them on another site. Which page is your privacy policy and your dates stay with each site; the business profile is only imported if you tick the box.
- Return window: days customers have to return items, used in the Refund & Returns Policy. 0 means all sales are final.
- Industry: health, kids, real estate, restaurant or finance add extra checks.
Who you serve
Privacy laws follow your customers, and most only apply above a certain size. These answers decide which checks are required by law and which are best practice:
- Where your customers are: states and regions where you have regular customers.
- People whose data you handle each year, in your biggest state.
- Whether you’re a small business under the SBA size standard, have revenue over $25 million, earn money selling customer data, or handle sensitive data.
Policy & alerts
