Approve policy updates for law changes
New wording prepared when a law starts to apply, live only after you approve it.
Privacy laws keep arriving, and a law can start to apply to you because it takes effect or because your business changed. Once a day, after its daily scan, GoConsent Pro checks which laws likely apply to you, based on your business profile in Settings. When a new one does, it prepares new wording for the policy pages that need it. Nothing goes live until you approve it.
What happens when a law starts to apply
- GoConsent looks at your published policy pages and picks the ones that now show Update available on the Tools tab.
- You get an email naming the law, what it asks of your website, a link to its official text, and the pages with new wording waiting. It goes to the site admin and your privacy contact email, while Email alerts is on in Settings.
- On the Overview, a Needs your approval card titled Policy updates for a law change lists the law and the pages.
Review and approve
- Click Preview next to each page to see what would change. From the preview you can also update just that page, and untick anything you don’t want.
- Click Approve and update to update every listed page at once. GoConsent asks you to confirm, and tells you how many pages it updated.
- Or click Not now. The card goes away, and the pages still show Update available on the Tools tab, so you can update them later.
Only administrators who can publish pages can approve. Nothing on your live site changes until someone does. If you update a page yourself in the meantime, it drops off the list.
A record of every approval
Each approval is logged with the date, the pages, the law and who approved it. The latest five show under Approved law-change updates on the Policy history card in Tools. The previous text of each page stays in its policy history, and Undo last change on a page’s card in Tools puts it back.
Good to know
- The first daily check after Pro is turned on takes note of the laws that already apply. They don’t get an update card, so bring your pages up to date from the Tools tab when you start.
- Drafts and pages GoConsent can’t update for you aren’t included.
- A law that starts within 60 days gets an email heads-up only. Its wording is prepared once it applies.
- The email is a plain-English summary, not legal advice. Have your lawyer review the new wording.
