Policy history
Every published version of your policy pages, with dates, for visitors and for you. Restore any of them.
Each time a published policy page’s text changes, whether GoConsent updated it or you edited it, the version is saved on your site with the dates it was in effect. A record of what your policy said, and when, is often the first thing regulators and lawyers ask for.
What gets saved
- The first published version of a policy page, and every version after a text change.
- The first time a page changes after Pro is turned on, the text it had before is saved too, dated from when it was last modified.
- Only real text changes count. Changes to formatting or spacing alone don’t create a version.
- The last 100 versions of each page are kept. Versions are stored privately on your own site; nothing leaves it.
What visitors see
Once a page has changed, a Previous versions list appears at the end of it, with the dates each version was in effect. Opening one shows the old text with a note such as “You’re reading an earlier version of this page, in effect from … to …” and a Read the current version link. GoConsent’s “Last updated” date on it shows that version’s date.
Earlier versions aren’t indexed by search engines, so they won’t compete with the current page in search results.
What you see
- Open GoConsent › Tools. Each policy page card has a History button with the number of saved versions.
- The list shows each version’s dates, which one is Current, and who made the change.
- Click View to open a version, or Compare with current to see exactly what changed since then.
Turn the public list off
On the Tools tab, the Policy history card has Show previous versions to visitors. It’s on by default. Turn it off to hide the list from visitors. Versions are still saved, and you can still read them from History.
The same card lists recent Approved law-change updates, with who approved them. See Approve policy updates for law changes.
Going back to an earlier version
In History, click Restore on the version you want and confirm. The page goes back to that text, and the restore is saved as a new version, so the record stays complete. Undo last change on the page’s card reverses it if you change your mind.
Restoring your privacy policy rechecks it, since older wording may be out of date. If a page is built with a page builder GoConsent can’t write to, open the version with View, copy the text and paste it into the page instead. More in Keep policies up to date.
