Your Privacy Choices
The dialog visitors use to change their mind, see cookies and opt out by email.
Your Privacy Choices is the dialog visitors use to change their mind, see your cookies and opt out. Privacy laws expect this to be easy to find, so GoConsent offers several ways in:
- The “Your Privacy Choices” link at the bottom of every page, with California’s opt-out icon. It’s on by default.
- The small privacy button that appears after a visitor chooses.
- The Cookie details link on the banner.
- Any link to
#privacy-choices, or the[goconsent_choices]shortcode. See Privacy links and shortcodes.

- Strictly necessary is always on. Open any section to see its cookies.
- Marketing & advertising: turning it off is the opt-out of sale, sharing and targeted ads.
- Opt out using your email (with Pro: Opt out or make a privacy request) covers information you hold outside the browser, such as email lists and customer lists.
- Save Choices keeps exactly what the visitor picked.
What’s in the dialog
- A short notice at collection at the top: what your site uses cookies for, based on what the scan found. If it found ad tags, it also says ad cookies may count as “selling or sharing” under some state laws.
- After a choice, a receipt with the visitor’s Consent ID, when they saved it and what it allows, plus a Copy ID button. If a visitor ever asks what they agreed to, this ID finds their record.
- Four sections: Strictly necessary, Analytics, Maps & videos, and Marketing & advertising. Each says what it’s for, and a link such as Show 3 cookies lists each cookie’s name, provider, purpose and expiry, taken from your latest scan.
- Reject All, Accept All and Save Choices. If a visitor closes the dialog without saving, their switch changes are dropped.
- Links to your Privacy Policy, Notice at Collection and Cookie Policy.
When the browser sends Global Privacy Control, the Marketing section shows “Off (GPC)” and can’t be turned on.
Opting out by email
Cookie switches only cover this browser. Opt out using your email covers what you hold elsewhere, such as an email list or form entries. The visitor enters their email (their name is optional) and clicks Send opt-out request. No account or ID is needed.
The visitor gets a confirmation email and sees that you’ll act within 15 business days. The site admin and your privacy contact email get the request with its due date and what to do.
Requests land on the Requests tab. See Handle a Do Not Sell or Share request.
With Pro, the link reads Opt out or make a privacy request, and visitors can also ask for a copy of their information or for it to be deleted. See Copy and delete requests.
Keep a way in
If you turn off the footer link or the privacy button on the Consent tab, keep another Your Privacy Choices link on every page. With the footer link off, the Overview flags it when GoConsent can’t find that link in your pages or menus.
